MicroSwab: A MicroSwab consists of a lyophilized pellet of a single microorganism strain inside a pen-like device. This pen-like device contains a sterile swab and rehydration fluid to facilitate the transfer of the microorganisms directly to culture media. The pellet has no defined CFU assay but a minimum of 1000CFU/pellet to ensure proper growth. Use MicroSwabs whenever a defined assay value is not needed. The MicroSwabs are up to 4 passages removed from reference strain.

  • some products also have a container of rehydration fluid inside a pen-like device. However this container is made of glass; you have to apply a substantial amount of pressure to break it in order to rehydrate the lyophilized pellet.
  • Other lyophilized preparations have to be pinched a homogenous suspension with the rehydration fluid.

Break the red "snap" valve by bending to a 45° angle.

2. SQUEEZE
2. SQUEEZE

Gently squeeze cap until all fluid moistens the lyophilized pellet in the bottom of the tube.

3. SHAKE

Gently shake so swab absorb rehydrated pellet.

4. INOCULATE
4. INOCULATE

Remove cap from tube and inoculate media.
