Sponge Breakpoint Handle

Easy sampling from hard to reach areas.

Commission Regulation (EU) No 2073/2005 of 15 November 2005 impose an obligation on the slaughterhouses to collect samples from carcasses of slaughter animals in accordance with the techniques described in ISO 17604: 2015. The non-destructive method described in the standard is to collect a sample from the appropriate carcass locations using an abrasive sponge. Collected material should be returned to the laboratory within 24 hours of receipt (optimally within an hour). After collection and during transportation samples should be stored refrigerated.

The special sponge design allows the ability to access hard to reach areas without direct handling the sponge. The sponge can be easily separated from the handle after swabbing by breaking at the designated point. The bags suitable for homogenization and incubation allows the delivery of the sample to a laboratory in a form ready for further processing.

Various product configurations allows to choose ones with or without sampling tools as disposable gloves and sampling templates.

The choice of 3 different Hy Con media pre-moistening diluents enables a wide range of environmental and product sampling applications.

Sponges pre-moistened with BPW – Buffered Peptone Water

are dedicated for sampling carcasses at slaughterhouses (according to ISO 17604: 2015) and non-disinfected areas of production lines but also are used for the detection of specific germs like Salmonella spp. or Listeria spp.

Sponges pre-moistened with NPB – Neutralizing Peptone Buffer

are widely used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and food industry. Dedicated for sampling on disinfected areas of production lines,  for detection of specific germs as Salmonella spp. or Listeria spp. and for quantitative analysis of total mesophilic microflora and indicator microorganisms like Enterobacteriaceae count.

Sponges pre-moistened with MRD – Maximum Recovery Diluent

MRD - Maximum Recovery Diluent also called Peptone Saline Solution is an isotonic and protective medium used for maximum recovery of microorganisms from environmental and food samples. It is also recommended for sampling carcasses of slaughter animals. Maximum Recovery Diluent is formulated as recommended by ISO 18593 for use as a diluent for general purpose ( formula specified in ISO 6887-1).
